Introducing the Australian Nappy Network™
In 2006, cloth nappy advocates in Australia began work on establishing a national body – the Australian Nappy Network™ (ANN) – to formalise their existing advocacy activities. The ANN is a not-for-profit organisation, the goal of which is to educate the Australian community on the health, environmental and financial benefits of using cloth nappies.
The ANN work programme
The Australian Nappy Network™ knows that the task of changing entrenched attitudes to cloth and disposable nappies is a large one. Around 95 per cent of Australian parents use disposable nappies, at a high cost to them and to the environment. In order to redress this imbalance ANN will:
COORDINATE national cloth nappy advocacy activities
CONNECT healthcare professionals, local authorities, businesses and parents
INFORM parents through campaigns/activities with consistent impartial information
SUPPORT parents, the cloth nappy industry and researchers
CAMPAIGN to have stakeholders in the community support our aims
INNOVATE to reduce the ecological impact of nappy use at all points of supply

The Green Gecko Project
The GREEN GECKO project is an initiative founded to benefit the lives of street children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. A recently emerging town located in the north-west of the country, it is home to the world’s largest religious site ‘Angkor Wat’ and consequently, a hastily growing tourism industry.
In the past, any tourist strolling along the streets of Siem Reap would have come across these children. While most would have certainly been hassled by their begging, not many would have had the pleasure of getting to know the kids themselves - their humour, tenacity, resourcefulness, hope, trust and friendship. The GREEN GECKO project began when one tourist took the time to do this, during 2005.
You can buy a small selection of their fundraiser merchandise from us with all proceeds going directly to the project.

Parenting
Your online guide to parenting.

Carpets for Communities (CfC) is a social enterprise focused on the education of some of the poorest and most vulnerable children in Cambodia. These children are at high risk of child trafficking, child labour and child prostitution.
We tackle these issues at the root causes of family poverty and lack of education. By empowering very poor mothers with the ability to earn an income from home by making rugs, the children are instantly relieved from working and begging and enjoy their return to school and playing with their friends. By increasing the income of the families we remove the financial incentive for human trafficking and exploitation of the children.
Mothers and girls make better choices for their families, so as well as helping them earn a steady income we focus on empowering them to help us direct the spending of any profits or donations we get. Programs they have initiated include health and first aid training, micro loans, scholarships, monitoring of the children’s attendance at school and supplying the children with ‘back to school kits’ including raincoats and boots, books, stationary, schoolbags and uniforms among other things.
We encourage you to buy/order a carpet or make a donation. Most carpets come in standard sizes and colours as seen in our online store however they can also be made to almost any size and shape and are available in a wide range of colours.
Each carpet sold makes a real difference. Each rug comes with a picture of the family who made it and if you supply your email address we will send you updates on their progress as they are available and occasional newsletters about the project. www.carpetsforcommunities.org
